This TSA  workshop  is  designed  for:

  • Controllers, Business Managers, and Fiscal Directors
  • Finance Managers and Accounting Department Heads 

Supervising Financial and Accounting Departments can present special challenges to Supervisors because of the complicated and exacting, repetitive tasks that staff members need to perform.  Additionally, because most programs are monitored by outside agencies and auditors, the ledgers, reports and books of accounts that are generated by the departments need to be completely accurate and timely, or funding could be compromised.

During this workshop, participants will learn how to significantly improve the supervision of their staff, how to promote genuine cooperation and teamwork, and how to enhance an independent work ethic among the very people who must be relied upon for just such qualities. Special emphasis will be given to Accounting administration and supervision, proper functioning of the Department, Employee Relations, and solving the most common management and procedural problems.  TSA certificates will be presented to everyone who attends this training.

  9. Tips for success during the budget approval process
  10. Effective purchasing processes and procedures
  11. How understanding the make-up of councils and boards helps you succeed
  12. Tips on giving reports to CEOs and Boards
  13. Making changes in department procedures with the least amount of resistance
  14. Round Table discussion and questions on day’s topics 

SECOND DAY, 9:00 am  – 4:00 pm:

  1. The Supervisor’s role in Employee Relations

    • Promoting the characteristics of a positive work ethic
    • Qualifications of effective accounting staff members
    • Promoting teamwork
    • The art of handling difficult staff members
  2. Creating accurate and timely reports for various funding agencies

  3. Requirements, procedures, and penalties related to co-mingling funds
